After continuous teasing from The Rock of his role in the upcoming Shazam movie, he finally revealed yesterday via Twitter who he is playing.
In case you aren’t totally familiar with Black Adam (like me), here’s some info via DC Comics database.
The Warner Bros-New Line Cinema superhero movie will be written by Darren Lemke (Goosebumps, Jack the Giant Slayer) with no director or Shazam actor announced yet. New Line president, Toby Emmerich, released this statement to EW regarding Shazam’s difference to other DC movies:
“”It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself,” he explains. “It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies.”
The usual superhero-movie cone of silence prevents Emmerich from addressing any of the plot elements of Shazam directly. But when asked where the movie would fall on the superhero-movie spectrum (from dark and gritty to light and peppy), Emmerich does allow that the movie “will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real.””
As of right now, no production date nor release date has been set for the movie. But it’s being speculated that it is one of the 9 untitled Warner Bros’ DC movie dates. Supposedly sometime this year WB will officially announce what those movies are.
So what do you think? Is The Rock a good choice for Black Adam? And who should be Shazam/Captain Marvel?
